The Emperor’s New Clothes

February 26, 2015 in Bro. Heath's Blogs, The Holy Bride

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8

I want to talk to you about the emperor’s new clothes… you know the story… the story of a scoundrel and a scammer who convinced the emperor to wear invisible clothing… to parade himself among his subjects as if he was wearing the finest, most fashionable garments of royalty…yet in fact, he was wearing nothing at all. Talk about a major wardrobe malfunction and an epic fail, as his subjects saw their king totally exposed in his birthday suit… and they giggled, whispered and wondered  among themselves…. “Hey, neighbor, are you seeing what I’m seeing? The king is completely and utterly butt naked… ahhh…what’s up with that?”

This of course I believe is a wonderful parable that none of us can ever figure out without a divine revelation from God.

You see, there is a large majority of deceived individuals who by token admission will claim to be a Christian but who are no more Christian than the devil himself. According to the Word of God, you can not be a true Christian without genuine sorrow and repentance from sin. Jesus said, “I tell you, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3 To repent of sin is to turn from it…  There are many who claim to have repented from their sin but yet still live in their sin. They somehow think that their shallow feelings of regret or remorse and perhaps some token verbal confession of sin is true repentance. But the scriptures clearly teach that true repentance is more than feelings of regret, shame or guilt, that it is more than just saying “I’m sorry” or making a vocalized confession of sin. “He that hides or covers his sins shall not prosper: but whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13

True repentance has always been defined as a forsaking of sin, to actually and literally stop your sinning! This isn’t preached much in the churches today for fear that sinners might get offended that they actually feel the guilt, and the shame of their sin… and the world is full of super sensitive sinners now who will militantly justify their wickedness and God forbid that you plead with them to give up their self destructive, unhealthy, unnatural, ungodly, immoral, perverted lifestyles… Today they will protest you as a narrow minded religious bigot who is spreading prejudice, intolerance and religious hate speech. And the mealy mouth preachers who have no fear of God but only fear man, they cower and appease to this wicked generation with a kinder, gentler message of the gospel… to cater not to a “seeker sensitive” crowd but to a “sin loving sensitive” crowd. Because anyone who is truly seeking God, a true seeker will eagerly embrace the message of true repentance and true deliverance from their destructive and miserable sins… and the consequences thereof.

But to get back to the analogy of the emperor’s new clothes is that there are plenty of scoundrel preachers along with whispering demons who will tell you, you being the emperor, that you don’t need to really repent of your sins to be forgiven and go to Heaven… all you need to do is make an empty ritual confession of your sins… hang your head and say you’re sorry every so often… but you don’t need to really give up your drunkenness and debauchery, your love of money, your materialistic and worldy heart, your lust, your greed, your adultery, your sexual perversions, your wicked imaginations, your bitterness and anger, your unforgiveness, your gluttony and over indulgence, your love for sensual pleasures… your self centeredness, ego and pride…

No that’s an old and harsh religion full of legalistic do’s and don’ts… you can’t really turn from wickedness, from a wicked heart and thought life… it’s your nature and it’s in your DNA to love sin… so forget about living some sort of holy, separated, sanctified life… that’s just a bunch of old religionists trying to get you to follow rules and religious regulations. Jesus loves and accepts you the way you are… they say… all you need to do is just have an intellectual belief in Jesus, a token confession of faith… no real need to repent, to live holy and pure… that’s just trying to work your way to heaven… it’s your self effort and salvation by works… Jesus paid the price and he did the works so now all you have to do is wear His symbolic invisible robe of righteousness… the emperor’s new clothes… just put on this invisible symbolic white garment of holiness… cause it’s not your holiness, it’s His… so bask in the light of His grace that allows you to go on sinning and living an unholy and ungodly, undisciplined fleshly, sin-filled lifestyle… and when you stand before God at Judgment day, you can tell God how much you love Him because He winked at your unrepentant heart… even though the Word says God no longer winks at your sin but commands you to repent…  and God allowed you to constantly have impure thoughts and imaginations, and unholy motives, even though His Word says to be holy and keep your mind pure from evil….

But He loved you anyways while you disregarded His commandments to obey Him and you rebelled against the Word of God time after time… even though you’ve read where Jesus said if you really love me you would keep my commandments… but it’s okay… it’ all under His invisible symbolic blood atonement… you are clothed with filthy rags, having never truly repented or lived a single day holy… you made popcorn confessions of your sins everyday and never once thought to turn from your evil… but’s its okay… you have an invisible robe of righteousness on… oh emperor of your new clothes…

This is the ultimate deception of this age…

I am afraid many so called “converts of the kingdom” are going to have a very rude awakening when they realize that they are naked,  that they were only “false converts of the kingdom”. When they stand before Jesus, the lion of Judah, the holy of holies, the great I Am, the All consuming Fire of His presence…. And they stand completely and utterly naked and wretched and wicked. And Jesus will say to them, Where is the reward of my suffering? Where is the return on my sacrifice? Why was my blood not powerful enough to truly atone you? How can I be your deliverer, your redeemer and your savior from sin, if you never have been truly delivered, redeemed and saved from your sin? Where is your robe of righteousness, your white garment of holiness that I clothe my servants with? My Holy spirit is given to those who’ve been truly saved… and by my Holy spirit I make men holy… but you are filthy, sinful, carnal and rebellious.

Who are you? I don’t believe I know you. You’re not one of mine for my sheep hear my voice and they follow me… my sheep loved me in truth and keep my commandments, my sheep repent of their sins, my sheep obey my commandment to be holy, to purify their hearts and minds, to live godly and unspotted from the world. But who are you? To come and parade about as if you are worthy to stand in my presence because some preacher told you that all you needed to do was say a little token prayer to receive my grace and mercy? Why didn’t you instead believe my Word? Did you really think that my grace gave you a license to practice sin, that on this day you stand before me with some invisible symbolic grace covering which would shield you from my wrath against all sin?

But my Word says, “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, Teaching us to denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Titus 2:11-12 No, the true power of grace is to make men holy in a real and life transforming way, not to make them artificially justified in unrepentant sin. Those who’ve been touch by my grace are clearly identifiable by my work of sanctification in their lives.  It doesn’t mean your perfect but it does mean you’re being perfected… It doesn’t mean you’ve completely arrived but it does mean you’re walking the highway of holiness.

A true godly conversion is always down this pathway of grace and holiness.

Many people in the church are like this emperor and his new clothes with this shallow and false teaching of a cheap grace, a repentance without turning from sin, and a holiness that is merely figurative or symbolic. They are but phantom garments ready to be exposed as fraudulent interpretations of the Holy Word of God. And those sin loving converts who are deceived by this false teaching will be shocked speechless to learn that they never truly loved the Lord nor were they ever clothed in the garments of true holiness.

Jesus made a very serious proclamation, eerily similar to the story of the emperor’s new clothes when He ended one of his parables about the wedding feast, when He comes back for his Holy Bride, which is defined as the true church without spot or wrinkle… when he said in Matthew 22:11-14 “And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he said to him, Friend, how came you in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.” It’s not enough to be called a Christian… are you following in the footsteps of Christ? Are you a chosen generation, a holy priesthood as the scripture say?

Will you be speechless on that day?

I want to end this message by pleading with you not to disregard it as a frivolous personal interpretation of the Bible but study out the scriptures diligently to see if these things be so… don’t just buy into the popular warm and fuzzy gospel that puts no demands on your soul to truly repent of your sin, your self-centeredness and  pride. God commands all men to repent and to flee the wrath to come which scriptures says is on all the sons of disobedience who practice unrighteousness.

The word of God is full of warnings and admonitions to live differently than the common sinner… to be holy as God is holy. These commandments are not optional. And the only way we can keep His commandments and to be holy is to allow His Holy Spirit to work this work in us. The work of the Holy Spirit within the believer is not just so we can speak in tongues, or get holy goosebumps when we fall backwards when a visiting preacher blows on us. The work of the Holy Spirit is to make men holy and keep them holy while living in this wicked, fallen world. And this holiness has very little to do with long hair, long dresses and long faces… but it has everything to do with loving people, loving the brethren and loving the lost and wayward.

Holiness has little to do with being some sort of perfect, pious, standoffish individual… but has everything to do with being patient, being kind, being merciful and forgiving, being compassionate and self sacrificing to help others in their need…

This gives more glory to God then all the miracles and outward manifestations of the glamorous modern church and all her projects and programs today.

In closing, listen to this scripture and tell me, whether holiness is merely symbolic as some “magical atonement or grace that will get us into the Kingdom or are we being admonished to literally and actually give up our wicked ways and to express the life of Christ.  “For this you know, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God on the children of disobedience. Be not you therefore partakers with them.” Ephesians 5:5-7

Be not like the foolish emperor who was deceived into thinking that he was clothed in the proper garments… when actually he was naked and wretched. On judgment day, we need to be clothed in true humility and true Godliness not in shame and disgrace from living a fleshly, worldly, sin loving life.

Now, one last scripture to show us what we need to be truly clothed with…

“…Understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk or behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension, bitterness and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” Romans 13:11-14

Are you being clothed in true holiness or are you merely being deceived into thinking that you will stand worthy before the holy God who sees all in filthy garments of carnality and sin. Will you be speechless at the wedding feast?

God bless you, I speak these truths in love because I really do care for your souls and want you to know the true freedom and everlasting future that is found in the precious gospel of our Lord Jesus!

*We make no apologies for the many scriptures and references in this article because it is necessary that you know that it is not our opinion but God’s Word that really matters in the end.
